COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Charming Film submitted by irenzero on July 24, 2020, 7:57pm one thing the UK indie film scene is great at are the mid budget film and this is one of them. A charming film about a 16 year old girl finding her voice and who she is in the 1990s. There are a few magic realism moments and some fine family moments. If you liked Fighting with My Family or Sing Street this might be for you.

Coming of Age, Differently submitted by Meginator on October 3, 2020, 10:25am This coming-of-age film feels lived-in and honest, even if the chain of events becomes just a bit implausible as the main character reaches her low point. I appreciate the film’s fundamental message about young women’s ability to atone for mistakes and, as the title suggests, continually build different versions of themselves, especially as the kind of story depicted here is usually reserved for male characters. Things even get a bit raunchy, which gives the film added credibility, and the hints of magical realism work well in what is otherwise a very grounded story. This didn’t really resonate with me, which could be a function of my age, but it was fun and worth the watch, being just a little bit different than your typical film in this genre.

Lovely submitted by majean on July 17, 2021, 5:06pm The book this film is based on has been in my TBR list for a while, but other things have taken precedence. Really enjoyed the film as well as the bonus material.
