Gustavo is good at doing all sorts of ghostly things: walking through walls, making objects fly, and glowing in the dark. And he loves almost nothing more than playing beautiful music on his violin. But Gustavo is shy, and some things are harder for him to do, like getting in a line to buy eye scream or making friends with other monsters. Whenever he tries getting close to them, he realizes they just can't see him. Spooky Self-Belief submitted by Meginator on August 1, 2022, 3:56pm This charming picture book follows Gustavo, a ghost who discovers that doing what he loves best can help him overcome his shyness around the other monster children in town. While the story is delightful, told with gentle humor and keen emotional intelligence, much of the joy of this book comes from the illustrations; the character design is full of nods to classic horror films and tropes, and many of the scenes have clever hidden details to provide readers with a few extra chuckles. I love the way that the story and illustrations come together to spin a marvelous, gently spooky tale about finding confidence in yourself.
