Heartwarming and Suspenseful Historical Fiction submitted by KPNF on June 22, 2023, 7:52am This Ninth Ward was one of the hardest hit parts of New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina and this story does a great job getting the reader to feel what it might be like for those who were trapped in New Orleans during the storm and the flooding that followed. It was very suspenseful for the reader as the main characters struggle to escape the flood waters. This was also a nice story of friendship and love. The main character can see ghosts, but it is not scary and it helps Lanesha survive Katrina and grief. We want to read more by Jewell Parker Rhodes!
