Awesome book submitted by jcottey on June 25, 2020, 7:48pm Two brothers with one white parent and one Black parent: one who the world sees as white and one who the world sees as Black. We see how the Black brother is treated differently (poorly) by his peers at the upscale private school he attends. We see him struggle to find his own identity that is not tied to his brother. When he meets an former Olympic fencer, his life changes.
Fun Read about Important Topics submitted by KBarkerPeters on August 24, 2020, 4:00pm Rhodes does an excellent job of addressing issues of racism in a way that will engage younger readers without feeling preachy. Donte is a relatable character, and the relationships between Donte and his brother & parents are fun to read. Frustrated by his mistreatment at school, he takes up fencing as a way to beat his snobby classmates on their turf, but he learns a lot about himself in the process.
