Okay submitted by zmclaugh on August 28, 2020, 9:36pm I liked a lot of the choices made here, but would have liked to see a little more lasting consequences.

A little disappointing submitted by laursanc6 on June 24, 2021, 5:19pm It's getting 2.5/5 stars. I had such high hopes for this book just for it to be a major let down. Not only was it a stand alone but it was also fantasy and had romance (sapphic romance too) a total win win for me. I do have to admit that while I had seen this around I had no real clue what it was about until I read the description after I had checked it out. After that I was even more hyped because it sounded awesome! Who doesn't like princess or monster story?

Let's start with some positives shall we. I think the Persian mythology was super interesting and it had the potential to make such an interesting world. The romance was unexpected but adorable. This was my favorite part of the whole book. And honestly...that's all the positives I have right now.

I'm going to start this by saying I think this book had so much potential but it fell victim to trying to shove too much into a stand alone. There were many elements and they felt rather undeveloped especially the divs and the "magic?" system. Next, I'm sorry but this book was so boring to me. I felt like nothing happened because it was just Soraya always being trapped or being sorry for herself or making bad choices. Then let's talk about the romance. While it was my favorite part I feel like there are flaws. The ending was anticlimactic and wrapped up super quickly and honestly I was glad I was done.

Writing this review bummed me out because I really wanted to like this book and I almost gave it 3 stars just because I felt bad and maybe one day I'll look back and change it but for now I can't give it higher than 2.5 stars.

Just Missed the Mark submitted by rishikabhutani on October 30, 2021, 8:44pm I did like the plot and Persian influences in the book. However, it was marketed as this incredible queer romance that was actually deceiving. The love story didn't take off until what felt like too late in the book, when I was almost done with it. While the book is only 30 chapters, I spent 20 of them thinking to myself "Where is the queer romance I was promised?" I think if the novel had been longer and each storyline had been completely explored, I would have liked it more. Everything just felt rushed.
