New Old Soul submitted by Meginator on July 8, 2021, 6:47pm Despite being a newly recorded release, this album pays homage to the great R&B/soul acts of the 1960s, with a definitive Motown flavor to it. The songs are solid, though not quite as automatically catchy as their historical counterparts, and the rhythm section adds a nice bounce that distinguishes the tracks from one another. James Hunter’s vocals are stylistically on point, though he lacks just a little in emotional delivery. This is a good approximation of a historical sound and a good time even if it isn’t particularly memorable or innovative.
