So much better than I expected submitted by FordAlpha on July 14, 2021, 9:26pm I'd encountered some buzz about the Wingfeather Saga series, so I decided to check it out at my friendly local library. I'll admit, my expectations were not high. They were blown away. The author is a first-rate storyteller, and the book kept me breathless with anticipation as I read, reluctant to put it down. The characters are fully realized, as is the setting, with a rich, epic backstory and inventive world-building. Some elements of the story and internal mythos are biblically inspired, but the plot is not a Christian allegory a la Narnia, and the tale can be enjoyed by anyone. The writing is both humorous and emotionally resonant. This book would make a great read-aloud, and I intend to read it to my kids after we finish the series we're currently reading. "On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness" gets my highest recommendation.

The author brought the story to life, making it easy to visualize vividly. This book blew me away, and so did all the others in this amazing series, and it gets my recommendation.
