"Iris loves to push the elevator buttons in her apartment building, but when it's time to share the fun with a new member of the family, she's pretty put out. That is, until the sudden appearance of a mysterious new button opens up entire realms of possibility, places where she can escape and explore on her own. But when she's forced to choose between going at it alone or letting her little brother tag along, Iris finds that sharing a discovery with the people you love can be the most wonderful experience of all."--Provided by publisher.

The Pinnacle of Picture Books; Not Just for Kids submitted by Meginator on July 11, 2021, 12:20pm This imaginative picture book shows what happens when a girl finds a discarded elevator button that takes her bedroom to unexpected, exciting locales. Dan Santat’s illustrations are full of wonder and magic, and the comics-inspired panel format allows him to control the story’s emotional pace with unusual depth for a picture book. As good as the pictures are, it is Minh Lê’s attention to storytelling that really makes the book work; more than the sum of its parts, the story is, at its heart, about family and belonging as much as it is about adventuring. This is a heartfelt and wonderful picture book that will resonate with readers of all ages.

Very Pretty submitted by jacks404 on July 27, 2021, 7:27pm This book has a similar vibe to Journey, Quest and Return (though it does have some words but the pictures are more vibrant and colorful. Highly recommend.

Just enough words submitted by FordAlpha on July 26, 2023, 11:49pm I loathe wordless picture books. I know all the reasons why they're supposed to be great, but nope; when I am reading a picture book to my kid, I want words to read. I do, however, love a good graphic novel: it's all about the partnership between words and images. Much of the story in "Lift" is conveyed wordlessly by Dan Santat's emotive illustrations, but Minh Lê provides just enough words (in the young girl protagonist's voice) to nudge the story along through its transitions. I appreciated the scaffolding that this provided for me to talk about the wordless panels with my kid. The idea of a magic door to limitless worlds is nothing new, and nor is the message about sibling reconciliation, but the total package feels fresh and wondrous.
