Good sequel submitted by DL on June 24, 2020, 6:05pm Some of the same characters are back but some interesting new characters enter the game. Coming back doesn’t mean you are the same character. Love the Grandpa and his friend.

Sequel better than expected! submitted by ssmyth on July 11, 2020, 9:55pm I really loved the original Jumanji reboot movie that came out with 'The Rock', Kevin Hart, etc and was hoping this would be just as fun - and it was! Enough of my favorite things from that movie plus new twists and turns! LOL!

Great Use of Video Game Tropes submitted by Meginator on August 22, 2020, 9:39pm This film is great, because it leans all the way in to its (many) absurdities and doesn’t strain to be something it isn’t. The plot is precisely what you expect: a quest for a MacGuffin that employs familiar video game tropes such as hilariously repetitive (and uncooperative- or *overly* cooperative, in one memorable case) NPCs, a mid-game switcheroo, leveling up and acquiring new abilities, and the beloved level made up of moving platforms and perilous jumps. The cast is juggled around a bit, including the addition of two new players alongside the first film’s quartet of (now college) students, and the star performers ham it up to excellent effect. Their performances are outrageous, over the top, and self-aware, making the film work and occasionally giving it surprising emotional depth. Character motivations aren’t always obvious, but it doesn’t matter because the actors are so clearly have a blast channeling each other (The Rock’s version of Danny DeVito is spectacular and worth the price of admission alone, and Jack Black is characteristically charming as well). This wasn’t quite as entertaining as the first Jumanji reboot, if only because that film’s surprising delights are repeated here and no longer new, but it is a heck of a good time.
