COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Director Sam Mendes' did an awesome job! submitted by yufamily on June 30, 2020, 8:10pm 1917 will go down as one of the epic war movies.

Unique submitted by mamtavj on August 13, 2020, 7:44am Wonderful war film which makes you feel as if you are with these soldiers on the battle field experiencing their pain and perilous journey. Masterpiece.....

Outstanding Film Technique submitted by Meginator on June 11, 2021, 5:42pm Content Note: This film shows some battlefield gore, including dead people and animals, and includes some battle scenes with bombs and gunfire.
Yes, this film is stitched together to look like two continuous takes, but as technically impressive as it is it is so much more than its gimmick (which isn’t really a gimmick at all, as it adds an underlying tension to the story and directly involves the audience in an experience that is rapidly fading from public memory). The story is intense, emotional, and gripping from its first moment to its final shot, and the acting, sets, score, and cinematography are each phenomenal in their own right. Mendes takes the fundamental popular narrative of the First World War and spins it into a harrowing personal experience that humanizes the conflict in ways few other films manage. This is a must-watch for anyone who wants to revel in its technical brilliance (it really is a stunning achievement), anyone who wants to learn more about the experience of the trenches, and anyone who simply appreciates a compelling story told in a fresh cinematic way.

Battlefield experience submitted by pmysore on August 22, 2021, 8:49am The movie was very immersive and brings the horrors of war to your living room. Great movie for war movie fans

If you are a big history fan and expect this movie to tell you even a fraction of what happened in 1917, you will be very sorry submitted by Tassos on March 23, 2023, 3:54pm This JOKE of a movie is surprisingly not from the damned fools in Hollywood, but British. Its title "1917" is ridiculously ambitions and misleading, compared with the insignificant little made-up episode that allegedly happened that year. But if your daily movie menu consists of car chases and even dumber "action" flicks, you may actually watch this and not set it on double speed like I am doing, while doing some serious work on my desktop and laptop.

But even double speed is not enough, I am now skipping entire stupid scenes and in a few minutes the silly movie will be over. No patience with insignificant details posing as "1917", a CRITICAL YEAR IN WORLD HISTORY.
