Rock Climbing as Advice for Life submitted by Meginator on August 11, 2021, 4:51pm This picture book effectively blends biography and storytelling to encourage readers to break down large problems while teaching them about bouldering and other types of rock climbing. The biographical, thematic, and educational elements come together seamlessly and in a way that feels genuine and not like the heavy-handed moral lesson this book could have been. Shiraishi’s writing has a warm quality to it that feels more like a friendly conversation and pep talk than like a book, making this a great choice for reading aloud. The focus on an unconventional (but increasingly popular) sport also lends this book a unique appeal; everything just works and it’s really lovely.
