Great If You Don't Judge It By Green Day's Standards submitted by Meginator on August 17, 2020, 7:27pm As a Green Day album, this is somewhat disappointing, as the band aims for low-hanging fruit and a too-aggressive (and thus unconvincing) couldn’t-care-less attitude; this approach has always formed the core of the band’s appeal, but at this point it’s not particularly effective. However, the tracks are punchy and represent an interesting pop-centered evolution of pop-punk that has the musical potential to appeal to a wide range of listeners. Even if Green Day has strayed far from their roots, they at least seem to be having fun, and a certain sense of juvenile freedom persists throughout. It’s not a concept album, exactly, but the tracks are cohesive and best when experienced together. Ultimately, I enjoyed this album much more after I figured out how to let go of my expectations and approach its on its own terms.
