"When Astrid Strick witnesses a school bus accident in the center of town, it jostles loose a repressed memory from her young parenting days, decades years earlier. Suddenly, Astrid realizes she was not quite the parent she thought she'd been to her three, now-grown children. But to what consequence? Astrid's youngest son is drifting and unfocused, making parenting mistakes of his own. Her daughter is intentionally pregnant yet struggling to give up her own adolescence. And her eldest seems to measure his adult life according to standards no one else shares. But who gets to decide, so many years later, which long-ago lapses were the ones that mattered? Who decides which apologies really count? It might be that only Astrid's 13-year-old granddaughter and her new friend really understand the courage it takes to tell the truth to the people you love the most. In All Adults Here, Emma Straub's unique alchemy of wisdom, humor and insight come together in a deeply satisfying story about adult siblings, aging parents, high school boyfriends, middle school mean girls, the lifelong effects of birth order, and all the other things that follow us into adulthood, whether we like them to or not"-- Provided by publisher.

Fun, quick read submitted by jaromatorio on June 29, 2020, 2:22pm This book was a real delight and a perfect read for a somewhat hectic time! Though the story covers some fairly serious issues, it was generally quite lighthearted and never felt too heavy or stressful. And I grew so fond of most of the characters over the course of the book (even though they were basically all absolute goofs)! I'd definitely recommend this one for a quick, fun summer read!⠀⠀
⠀⠀
'All Adults Here' follows three generations of the slightly dysfunctional but very lovable Strick family as they navigate the complexities of "growing up" (whether that's happening at 13 or 68) over the course of one year. The story starts with the matriarch of the family--rigid, buttoned-up Astrid Strick--witnessing an old rival of hers being struck and killed by a school bus one morning. What comes after is a massive reckoning about her parenting decisions and life choices that throw her whole family into turmoil.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Though Astrid's 3/4 life crisis (coupled with the consistently questionable decisions of several other members of the Strick family) make for some pretty funny incidents to read, the book definitely covers some serious topics, and I think does a solid job of it! I did occasionally feel as though the author was trying to touch on every hot button issue out there, but didn't think that the lack of depth of coverage of one issue or another really detracted from the overarching theme of the story or my enjoyment of it.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Overall I very much enjoyed this book (though I'm a sucker for a dysfunctional family!) and would definitely recommend it as a quick, easy summer read! ⠀

Not a quick read for me submitted by lizgiessner on July 13, 2023, 5:42pm I really liked the style and content of this book. It was not a quick read for me because I had to pause reading often to reflect on my own memories of childhood and of parenting. I also recommend this book for book club discussions!
