So much better than I ever thought! submitted by ssmyth on August 19, 2020, 12:46pm I had heard the hype about this movie and heard of all of the nominations for awards, etc - but I wasn't really sure what this movie was really about or if I could possibly enjoy it. I watched it with a skeptical attitude that changed to one of true enjoyment, laughter and deep feelings that I have continued to think about long after seeing the movie. Such a creative way to get a message across. Give it a try... Keep a sense of humor and enjoy.

Well Made, But Uncomfortable submitted by Meginator on July 8, 2021, 6:50pm I enjoyed this movie, but something about its premise and the feel-good mentality still sits uneasily with me. Taika Waititi does his best to lampoon Hitler without accidentally celebrating him, but the film’s blend of seriousness and over-the-top satire never quite finds an appropriate balance, which in turn dampens some of its intended emotional effect. Ultimately, Jojo’s pivotal emotional development rang hollow to me, feeling more like an outcome of scripted necessity than genuine character growth. I was also put off by the inclusion of a Good Nazi, which feels excessive and hollow in the context of the film and ultimately tasteless and off-putting given the current political climate. The performances are excellent across the board (child actors are always a risky proposition, but Roman Griffin Davis is phenomenal in the title role) and the film itself is carefully considered and nicely produced, but it never fully clicks into place.
