"There is a voice of longing inside every woman. We strive so mightily to be good: good mothers, daughters, partners, employees, citizens, and friends. We believe all this striving will make us feel alive. Instead, it leaves us feeling weary, stuck, overwhelmed, and underwhelmed. We look at our lives, relationships, and world, and wonder: Wasn't it all supposed to be more beautiful than this? We quickly silence that question, telling ourselves to be grateful. We hide our simmering discontent--even from ourselves. Until we reach our boiling point. Four years ago, Glennon Doyle--bestselling Oprah-endorsed author, renowned activist and humanitarian, wife and mother of three--was speaking at a conference when a woman entered the room. Glennon looked at her and fell instantly in love. Three words flooded her mind: There She Is. At first, Glennon assumed these words came to her from on high. Soon she realized that they came to her from within. Glennon was finally hearing her own voice--the voice that had been silenced by decades of cultural conditioning, numbing addictions, and institutional allegiances. This was the voice of the girl Glennon had been before the world told her who to be. She vowed to never again abandon herself. She decided to build a life of her own--one based on her individual desire, intuition, and imagination. She would reclaim her true, untamed self. Soulful and uproarious, forceful and tender, Untamed is both a memoir and a galvanizing wake-up call. It offers a piercing, electrifying examination of the restrictive expectations women are issued from birth; shows how hustling to meet those expectations leaves women feeling dissatisfied and lost; and reveals that when we quit abandoning ourselves and instead abandon the world's expectations of us, we become women who can finally look at our lives and recognize: There She Is. Untamed shows us how to be brave. As Glennon insists: The braver we are, the luckier we get"-- Provided by publisher.

Loved this book! submitted by fairytale on June 16, 2020, 1:01am I read this book in just two days, I really enjoyed it and got a lot out of it. I liked that each chapter was really short, it held my interest.

Insightful, thought provoking book submitted by Trudie G on July 26, 2020, 11:40am
From the moment I started this book, I loved the beautiful insights and transparency of this author's insights of life . Bestselling author, Glennon Doyle's life seemed idyllic until she realized she wasn't being true to herself. She met soccer player Abby Womac at a conference and they instantly fell in love. Glennon bares all and writes about her transition from her marriage to her husband and life with their three children, to suddenly, then married again to Abby. She covers topics from parenting, religion, systemic racism to true love. Her voice is something that we should all listen to and learn from. I highly recommend this amazing book.

Candid and Powerful submitted by eschrine on August 12, 2020, 12:40pm Brave, candid, and powerful, Gennon Doyle's memoir is a wonderful read. In touch with herself, she relates her personal experiences to an almost sociological perspective on how the world tries to contain individuals when they are meant to be set free. She writes about an array of topics, of which range from heartbreaking to empowering. In this well-written book, she has a powerful voice and snippets of memories and wisdom that are translated into short chapters for an easy (but good) read.

Untamed submitted by HollyMarieFortin on June 16, 2021, 10:32pm Was on the wait list for most of the pandemic and once I picked it up from the holds shelf I could not put it down. Nodded my head through out the book with a-ha moments and So true moments. I unleashed my inner Cheetah! Thank you G for authoring this one and thank you for your courage. I am inspired and forever changed after reading this title. Now I follow her on Instagram and her podcast!

Not for everyone submitted by flemingj on June 28, 2021, 11:06am I appreciate this author's experiences, but didn't think all the hype is warrented.

Helpful book, easy writing style submitted by Elizabethreads on July 23, 2021, 11:29am I loved the ideas Glennon wrote about, and her writing is accessible and easy to read in short bursts. Sometimes it felt like a series of blog posts about her life- but all of them resonate deeply. If you're looking for a more literary writing style, or longer chapters, this might not be for you.

Review submitted by bcartm01 on June 18, 2022, 9:54am I enjoyed Glennon’s story. I am not sure that it is a must read but it was fun to read and did have several good learning points within. She and her partners love story is also very sweet.

Everyone needs to read submitted by oppliger on July 22, 2022, 1:20pm Everyone, especially those with a typically oppressed gender identity (woman, trans, non-binary) should read this. Even though my journey and life is very different from Glennon's, her wisdom spoke to me repeatedly. It is time to RISE!

Loved submitted by GSchne on July 26, 2022, 8:12pm It's an easy read with good advice on relationships and parenting. I took some of the advice and left some. I received it as a gift and liked it so much I gave it as a gift to all my bridesmaids.

A great read submitted by liaowrightfam on July 28, 2022, 9:53pm Came across this book because someone suggested it to me and fell in love with it. It's very easy to read as the chapters are short, but I couldn't put it down. Finished it in days! Would recommend it to anyone who want to learn more about themselves.
