Great book submitted by squirrellynut on April 18, 2021, 11:35am I, personally preferred Keller's The Science of Breakable Things to When You Trap a Tiger, but I can't deny the gorgeousness of this book. To me, this story seemed to come from the depths of the author's soul, and while the plot sometimes grew tiring, the characters never did. I teared up at parts, and am going to reread this book at some point.
Has a slow start, but worth keeping on reading

I almost stopped reading this book in the early chapters, because the characters seem so isolated from each other and aren't nice to each other. But I was curious to see where it was going, so I kept reading. And I am very glad that I did, because it revs up into a book that I really enjoyed.
The book has lots of strong female characters -- mothers, sisters, grandmothers -- intertwined with tigers and lots of stories. The dividing line between reality and fantasy is in an unusual place. The main character is a middle schooler who identifies as a "QAG" -- "quiet Asian girl" -- with a superpower of invisibility. But through the course of the book, as her family deals with some really difficult issues, she discovers that there is so much more to her than that!
Anyway, I highly recommend this book!
Good middle grade read submitted by rachelmcglash on June 13, 2022, 8:13am You know it's a good book when the end makes you cry.
YES DEFINITELY READ THIS submitted by nicojorg on July 6, 2022, 11:16am It’s so inspiring but then sad and it just throws you though this insanely amazing emotional rollocoaster .
Excellent Read submitted by Jooyeon on August 26, 2022, 12:59pm I loved this book, partly because of the amazing emotional ride the author takes us on, and partly because the author chose each character so that their stories blend together beautifully. I’m amazed at how Tae Keller managed to weave together an asian girl, ancient stories, and a tiger into an inspirational book about the magic of believing. Totally worth reading.
Red Riding Hood reinvented submitted by cdeucher on July 15, 2023, 8:13am When Lily and her family move in with her sick grandmother, Lily sees a magical tiger straight out of her Halmoni's Korean folktales on the drive there. This book directly speaks to the power of stories and Lily's quest to save her grandmother.
