fantastic submitted by emilyb308 on July 30, 2020, 12:56pm One of my favorite Elton John albums. Honky Cat and Rocket Man are classics for a reason; they each tell a compelling story and sound darn good while doing it. But there are plenty of awesome songs here beyond the radio singles. Mellow has a wonderfully chill vibe, while Susie and Amy rock out hard. I Think I'm Going to Kill Myself is pure tongue-in-cheek fun. And Hercules is just so upbeat and catchy. Did anyone else think it was literally about someone with a pet cat named Hercules when they were a kid? because I kinda hope I'm not the only one. :)
A Lot of Variety submitted by Meginator on June 26, 2023, 10:01pm This classic pop-rock album has an interesting variety of sounds to it, with a range of upbeat tracks broken up by “Rocketman” in the middle, which almost serves a kind of interlude. The piano generally takes center stage and has a bright sound to it, incorporating some elements of honky-tonk style into more standard pop-rock songwriting and creating a unique blend of genres that works really well with John’s vocal style. The songs are all incredibly catchy (although a couple have some questionable lyrical themes) and the album holds up rather well despite its age. The album may have only one all-timer on it, but it’s a great showcase of Elton John’s incredible talent.
