gotta love that album title submitted by emilyb308 on July 30, 2020, 2:16pm Some of the lyrics on this album are problematic, specifically for how they treat women. I want to believe they're self-aware about it, and that the narrators of these songs are not necessarily intended to be likeable or sympathetic characters. I mean, in a song called Midnight Creeper, I hope it's safe to assume that the dude applying this moniker to himself is in fact a creep. But god is that song ever catchy and fun to dance to; definitely one of the highlights of the album. Crocodile Rock is, of course, a classic. Elderberry Wine is also great to jam to, and Texan Love Song is comically fun. I get a kick out of imagining Teacher I Need You from the perspective of the teacher, who is very disturbed by the attention but calmly sets appropriate boundaries. And I can't talk about this album without mentioning the epic genius that is Have Mercy on the Criminal, because that song is mind-blowing. So despite the occasional lyric that make you cringe, I still think this is a solidly enjoyable listen.
