Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Marc Maron, Bill Camp, Glenn Fleshler, Shea Whigham, Brett Cullen.
Warner Bros. Pictures presents Oscar nominee Joaquin Phoenix in the title role, alongside Oscar winner Robert De Niro, and is directed, produced and co-written by Oscar nominee Todd Phillips. The film centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips' exploration of Arthur Fleck, a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale.

See it if you can stand it submitted by Morty on March 4, 2020, 9:45am I didn't have a problem, but my wife did.

There's a reason JP won Best Actor for this performance, and at least part of it is due to Phillips's or Sher's shot choices.

Great blending of the reality and fantasy plot strands so sometimes, we're really in Arthur's shoes and don't know the difference.

Includes homages to De Niro's The King of Comedy and Bronson's Death Wish.

The growth arc of Arthur's character is either the equivalent of day to night or night to night in hell. You decide.

Psycho Drama at its Best submitted by kencza on July 11, 2020, 11:50am A combination of riveting and agonizing at the same time, this can be hard to watch but it is a visual treat with great acting and story. Arthur is tormented by his psyche and what is in his eyes the madness of people, places, and things. At times exhilarating, and sometimes depressing, this movie is requires your attention and is worth the effort. His capacity for love and hate is enormous. Joaqin Phoenix's performance here is amazing!

Good but not great submitted by Will O on August 26, 2020, 10:18am Didn't hate it as much as the haters and didn't love it as much as the fanboys.
Joaquin Phoenix was of course crazy good and intense and probably a nightmare to work with.
Like any movie there were good parts like taking the mythology of a well known comic book villian and making an interesting character study out of it and not so good parts, all the people in Arthur's life are awful terrible people and have no redeeming qualities.
A little more nuance would have been nice but at the end of the day it's an original take in a genre that feels more and more formulaic with each new movie that comes out and while subtle isn't a word I would use for this or any Todd Phillips movie it was still a solid, well acted and interesting watch.
Also, Bill Camp is the GOAT.
