COMMUNITY REVIEWS
Doesn't Ever Get to the Point submitted by Meginator on August 20, 2021, 7:49pm This is a highly personal, meandering documentary about the history of tattooing that centers around, and features interviews with, several important artists of the 1960s-1980s. The first shot features a Confederate battle flag and swastikas adorning a Columbus shop’s walls, but the film avoids all overt mentions of politics and, somewhat oddly given much of the featured artwork, cultural appropriation. This is more a celebration of a certain era in tattooing than it is a critical look at the art form, but some of the featured art is absolutely astonishing, particularly geometric designs by female tattoo artists. This isn’t the first film I would recommend to someone interested in tattoos, but those who know a little about them will find this interesting, if unfocused.
