The stentorian voice of a voiceless people submitted by Chai Montgomery on February 29, 2020, 6:16pm Dr. Khalidi's book is a well-written, adroit summary of the establishment of the nation of Israel in Palestine, and of the accompanying Palestinian resistance to European-based settler-colonialism.

I don't think that a realistic, informed opinion on the "question of the Middle East" is really possible without understanding the events, dynamics and ideas presented in this book.

It makes this long, complex history extremely accessible to laypeople while exposing what have become foundational myths (and their origins) that surround it.

His research is both canonical and personal, as his family was for generations involved in documenting and participating in the events of the day, going back to the late 1800's, which provides a fascinating and engaging perspective.
