Beyond the Boy Band submitted by Meginator on August 11, 2021, 5:25pm This is probably the most musically interesting of any of the One Direction members’ solo releases, building out on the retro vibe established on Styles’s first solo album. With influences ranging from Fleetwood Mac and CSNY to disco and contemporary pop, the musical mix here blends the old and the new in a genuinely unique, free-spirited way. The lyrics dive into some of the darker aspects of relationships, with more typical love songs rounding out the lot, but the album never feels too heavy. Don’t write this album off because of the singer’s boy-band origins; give it a chance and prepare to be amazed, or at least gently intrigued, by its many vibrant surprises.
