COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Intensely thorough and informational submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on June 12, 2022, 12:20pm This was an incredibly thorough book that was the first on the topic of sundown towns (cities and suburbs that did not allow Black people to be within the area limits after dark). As such, it looks at pretty much every single angle on every single aspect that you can think of (and dozens that you never would have)… but was outstanding as it did so. It took me a year to read it, because it’s so information-dense that I never wanted to read much at a time, yet I always came back to it because it was well-written, engaging, and gave fantastic information. _Sundown Towns_ is clearly a niche book because of the depth it dives to on the topic, but it is outstanding as a comprehensive look at the issue. The final chapter discusses ways to break the cycle, and I loved that Loewen addressed a way forward as well.
