We get more into the jump drive, AI and mirror universe. submitted by tbbrown76 on July 6, 2020, 9:02pm None of which I like. The characters are starting to grow on me a bit. Especially Tilley.
Recommended for the diehard fan.

not as good as the first season - but still fun submitted by Adam Graham on July 18, 2020, 10:17pm The first season had some really great twists, and this season got a bit silly at times. Still, there are some wonderful characters in this series and lots of easter eggs for long time Trek fans.

Connections to original series submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on June 15, 2022, 12:04pm The second season of "Star Trek: Discovery" begins with Captain Pike (the original captain of the Enterprise in the first Star Trek TV series) taking command of the Discovery as the Enterprise has taken too much damage to be useful. Michael Burnham, our main character and a crew member of the Enterprise, has searched for and found her adopted brother Spock, only to find that he has suffered significant psychological distress and appears to inhabit his own reality. Burnham then discovers the Red Angel, whose appearances throughout the galaxy create the season's main story arc and eventually lead to the circumstances of the third season.

Interestingly, Sarek, Spock and Pike are not played by the same actors as played those characters in the other Star Trek TV series nor in the recent Star Trek films. Jonathan Frakes, who played Commander Riker in "Star Trek: Next Generation," directs several episodes in this season.

Longtime fan submitted by hoppingfun on July 29, 2023, 1:28pm I keep wanting to like this series but have reached the point of abandonment twice. It's trying too hard to be an epic movie when its strength is in the wonderful and fresh characters. In this season, Tig Notaro as Reno is outstanding, a very welcome addition to the cast. Tilly and her emotive fungal friend are lots of fun.

Capt Pike is played just right, I think, and Michelle Yeow is always entertaining.

I just wish I could buy into the ideas and plots more. Sometimes less is more.
