Ana is a young nurse who is returning home after a hard day at work. She does not pay attention to an emergency broadcast telling the public about a deadly plague of flesh eating creatures. The next day, a little girl, their neighbor, comes into their house and bites Ana's husband Louis in the neck. Louis does not remain dead. Seconds later he is up and trying to bite Ana. Ana escapes, gets in her car and sees the public being eaten by flesh eating zombies. She crashes into a tree and is helped by Kenneth, a police officer. They regroup with some more people and find shelter in a closed mall. While they are searching the mall, they find 3 armed security guards. But they begin to run out of ammo, food, and power. The zombies begin approaching the mall in greater number. They armor 2 mall shuttle buses with weapons and a battering ram. They try to make it to the boat docks where they take a boat to an island where they find more zombies.

Fun zombies

Severe whiplash watching this right after the original Night of the Living Dead. While that was black and white and moody, this was loud, colorful and full of action. It was fun, but didn't have the depth of the original.
There were ads everywhere in that mall. I watched the unrated Blu-ray and I feel like the shorter theatrical cut may have been better. Felt it dragged a bit in the second half.
Shout out to the Richard Cheese lounge cover of Down With the Sickness.
