In season thirteen, the Winchester brothers were thrown into a frightening alternative universe, an apocalyptic domain where they were never born, all while training Jack and saving their mother. And they won. But with Lucifer's apparent death came a new obstacle to face in season fourteen, the Archangel Michael, who has now escaped the other universe in Dean's body! Sam, Castiel, and Jack are working on getting Dean back and stopping Michael before his Apocalypse-World agenda gains strength.

Warning: spoilers ahead submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on August 16, 2019, 4:47pm The TV series' penultimate season begins with Dean, possessed by an alternate dimension archangel Michael, wrecking havoc in this dimension as a precursor to killing all humans here. As usual, Dean brought about this latest impending apocalypse by trying to save his family at the end of the previous season. Dean thought that Michael would keep his promise to only possess Dean's body long enough to kill Lucifer. Surprise! Michael reneges on the deal. If I have learned nothing else from watching this series it is that you should never allow a demon/angel/anything else to possess you because it always go wrong.
In this season we also learn that there is an afterlife for angels: the Empty, which is run by and/or personified by a shadow demon intent on collecting Jack (who is half-angel and dead and therefore the property of the Empty). However, Castiel makes a deal to bring Jack back to life on Earth. As usual with resurrections on "Supernatural," this deal ends with disastrous consequences that viewers can easily predict but, oddly, the characters cannot. Jack later manages to save the world from Michael but in the process starts his own moral descent that threatens the world in a new way.
This season deals a great deal with the theme of families, particularly parents (biological or otherwise) and their relationship with their children.
