A film that celebrates the explosion of popular music that came out of LA's Laurel Canyon in the mid-'60s as folk went electric and the Byrds, the Beach Boys, Buffalo Springfield, and the Mamas and the Papas gave birth to the California Sound. It was a moment (1965 to 1967) when bands came to LA to emulate the Beatles, and Laurel Canyon emerged as a hotbed of creativity and collaboration for a new generation of artists who would soon put their stamp on the history of American popular music.
DVD, wide screen.
COMMUNITY REVIEWS
Not Quite a Hit submitted by kirterry on July 7, 2020, 8:33am This documentary features interviews with famous white men (and one woman) who have spent a lot of money trying not to look like their age reminiscing about the songs and egos of the '60s. It's interspersed with awkward scenes of Jakob Dylan trying to talk about music from that ear with his contemporaries.
I enjoyed this musical history submitted by yufamily on August 11, 2020, 2:34pm It's nice to revisit the old artists and hear their stories of the past.
