Amazing! submitted by pamhockey25 on July 26, 2020, 11:24pm What a slice of Red Wing history! I loved the memories and learning more about how the Wings got the Russian players here. So sad the celebration was cut short with the accident that permanently injured Vlady. Great watch! Highly recommended.

Essential Hockey History submitted by Meginator on August 11, 2021, 4:22pm This is an outstanding documentary that explores the story of the five Soviet players who formed the core of the Red Wings team that won the Stanley Cup in the late 90s. The creators blend traditional interview and archival footage with comics-inspired illustrations, using a rich red and gray palette that highlights the coincidental connection between the Soviet Union’s flag and the Red Wings’ jerseys. Though the story itself is filled with dramatic twists and turns, the film never really ventures into melodrama, keeping its emphasis on the facts and saving its most emotional moments for points where they really make a strong impact. This film will be of interest to Red Wings fans, anyone who is interested in NHL history, and anyone who appreciates a good sports documentary; it is a great example of the genre and makes a compelling (though never overt) argument for sports as a broader lens through which we understand society.
