Very cute! submitted by Xris on November 1, 2019, 11:03pm I love Ryan Reynolds, so that's what made this movie for me. I didn't play Pokemon, but it was still interesting to see the world that was made by this video game.

Actually Very Good! submitted by Meginator on August 29, 2020, 1:45pm This film could (and probably should) have been a disaster, but it finds the sweet spot between middle grade/teenage bildungsroman and irreverent buddy cop to create something that has a unique voice and broad appeal. The mix of real-life action and (heavy) computer-generated graphics worked surprisingly well, and the film’s visuals are bathed in a stunning cyberpunk combination of bright neons and muted shades of black and gray. Despite a huge parade of references for longtime Pokémon fans, the film should be reasonably accessible for newcomers as the director does quite a bit of effective worldbuilding work upfront. The content gets a little dark at times, with a typically convoluted villain plot lurking at the center of the mystery, and some viewers will benefit from having someone to help keep track of everything. In the end, this film is a really impressive achievement: it’s a franchise tie-in that assumes its own independent identity while remaining true to what came before, and a convincing character study with levels of thematic resonance for broad audiences. What an unexpectedly good film.

It's fine, I guess submitted by APluss on July 14, 2023, 10:20am I'm not a Pokemon person, but my kid is so we watched this together. I don't understand the allure of the Poke-craze, but my kid liked it.

Nostalgic submitted by snoopycat on July 27, 2023, 12:56pm Honestly one of the cutest movies there is. Very nostalgic for Pokemon fans.
