Beautiful. Daring. Deadly. The Cuban Revolution took everything from sugar heiress Beatriz Perez--her family, her people, her country. Recruited by the CIA to infiltrate Fidel Castro's inner circle and pulled into the dangerous world of espionage, Beatriz is consumed by her quest for revenge and her desire to reclaim the life she lost. As the Cold War swells like a hurricane over the shores of the Florida Strait, Beatriz is caught between the clash of Cuban American politics and the perils of a forbidden affair with a powerful man driven by ambitions of his own. When the ever-changing tides of history threaten everything she has fought for, she must make a choice between her past and future--but the wrong move could cost Beatriz everything--not just the island she loves, but also the man who has stolen her heart . . .

Like Potato Chips...that make you think submitted by Cihendricks on August 5, 2019, 10:35pm I find Chanel Cleeton's books hard to put down. They're fun and engaging-almost fluffy, but then she makes you think about ethical and moral questions as regard America's history. I so enjoyed this book, and I can't wait to see what she does next.

Good story with some Cuban/ Cuban-American history on the side submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on June 18, 2022, 11:43pm There were a few points where I felt like this novel could have been tighter… through the early to middle part, I got it, Beatriz goes to balls, wants revenge, and is hot for a guy she shouldn’t be in a relationship with… but overall I was captivated by the history, the relationships, the push-and-pull of gender and politics and culture, how various characters responded to events based on their ages and where they grew up, and the many other situational factors that the author so skillfully worked into the story. Beatriz is 22 and the narrator, yet we still get a solid sense of both her naïveté and terrible maturity for having grown up protected by her family yet in a revolution. The story spans enough time that things are not (really) nice neat through-lines with perfect endings. I appreciated that in the story. Recommended, especially for learning more about Cuban and Cuban-American history in a wonderfully engaging way.

Great book submitted by Bethybeth07 on August 5, 2023, 11:20pm While not as amazing as the first book, it’s still a great read and keeps you captivated
