Action/adventure submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on June 18, 2021, 10:15pm The writing in _Rage of Dragons_ was quite good (I had just put down two books in a row for being not worth my time, so I was delighted to read something well written and interesting). As an action book, the characters, the development, the storyline, and the tension are a lot of fun.

My two mild criticisms are first that the novel really picked up when Tau enters full-fledged training, and I thought the book prior to that could have used tighter editing/ been shortened to focus on the story that is currently the second half. Second, I’m also reading a book about American Indigenous communities and their genocide and mistreatment in the US through settler-colonialism. It was hard to side with the “hero” culture depicted in this book, as they were invaders who clearly slaughtered innocent residents upon arrival and have continued to do so ever since. It’s kind of mind-bending to read a novel by an author of color who appears to disregard the experience of Indigenous people so thoroughly. This is clearly the first book in a series, though, and the end *begins* to show nuance, so it’s hard to say where the larger storyline will go. Overall, enjoyable as an action book and probably worth the series, if action/adventure stories are your thing.
