"A riveting approach to the fascinating story behind Apollo 11's successful (but nearly disastrous) 1969 moon landing, Moon Landing, 1969 ties the preceding four centuries of science, technology, engineering and math to the Apollo 11 mission and the first steps on the moon with the art of storytelling. Structured in 11 episodes, the narrative takes us from pre-ignition to the moonwalk to splashdown. In addition, recurring "Solve the Mystery" sidebars highlight other key discoveries made in science, math, engineering and technology over the course of 400 years that helped to ensure the mission's success."-- Provided by publisher.

Great Mix of Storytelling & Fact submitted by Meginator on June 12, 2021, 9:36am This book marries narrative, history, and science to place the Apollo 11 mission in its broadest possible context. Each chapter begins with a description of what the astronauts on board Apollo 11 would be experiencing at a particular moment, followed by descriptions of (sometimes tenuously connected) historical scientific breakthroughs and contemporary scientific concepts that helped make the mission possible and successful. The connections are not always clear, but the book’s structure will appeal to a broad audience, including readers who are interested primarily in the event itself, in science history, and in rocket science.
