COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Poor imitations submitted by GJBarnett2 on August 2, 2019, 11:10am Spin-offs or perhaps better seen as exploitation films. Many better alternatives for the Dracula theme are available. Strictly speaking, Dracula never appears in either film, only his progeny, perhaps because the producer was trying to work within the storyline that the Count was killed in the 1931 Lugosi version. "Daughter" is simply a pale version (bloodless?) without him but holds to the narrative and the timeline. The producer of "Son Of" might have done better to set it as a prequel to Lugosi's version to preserve the timeline and to have cast Lugosi rather than Lon Chaney in the starring role. Chaney is simply no Lugosi, who had given his iconic performance only 12 years before "Son Of" was filmed in 1943 and was only 42 at that time and so still age-appropriate for the part.

It's different submitted by majean on July 27, 2022, 6:44pm I heard about this on the Rose Sinister: Vampires podcast, which was a terrific and interesting analysis. I enjoyed the movie, but that enjoyment may have been heightened because of the podcast.
