Absolutely stunning and entertaining! submitted by dina.dragoljic on July 2, 2022, 11:23am This book was everything I needed and more. Besides being a fantastic story, it was really well written. My favorite part of this story was the setting - a fantasy world inspired by ancient Arabia. It was mystical and alluring and culturally rich. I loved all the Arabian references, the use of Arabic, and the descriptions of food and practices. I was completely immersed in the world - everything felt really authentic and true to the setting and characters.

I will say, I had a hard time with the start as it was a little bit slow. But I could see the potential, especially in the nuances of the characters, so I powered through, and man was it worth it! The characters (or the "zumra" as they call it in the story) were so much fun and had layers to them. Our main characters, Nasir and Zafira, are so wonderfully developed and I really enjoyed reading about them and getting inside their brains. What drew me the most to these characters, both the heroes and the villains, was that they all feel the full spectrum of emotion, and none of them are fully good or bad. We see the villain regret, we see the heroes rage.

Usually, I am pretty good at guessing plot points, and while I guessed a couple of things correctly, the plot twists at the end threw me! They were so good! I can't wait to get my hands on the next one!!

we hunt the flame submitted by saphirahogan on July 12, 2023, 2:01pm i’m so glad i reread this !! i felt like i had a better understanding this time around and could really feel the relationships better. maybe it’s just getting older or maybe i’ve read more and thus understand my preferences more but this was just really what i needed.
