COMMUNITY REVIEWS

A Kind of Paradise submitted by camieroper on May 28, 2019, 9:45pm Who would think that a book in which much of the action takes place in a library could be so good? Well, really anyone who loves to read, I suppose, could guess it. But this is truly a good read, mainly about the process a young girl goes through one summer as she completes community service for a well intentioned misstep at school. The author gently allows the characters to unfold as the young girl's heart begins to open to others' problems. Adults become real, warm, breathing people to the young girl, as her issues and experiences gradually allow her to see that everyone has problems. There are some aha moments, some characters pass on, or out of the picture, with unexpected results. This is a very interesting story for teens/young adults.

This is a keeper! submitted by gem on August 10, 2019, 8:34am Aunt Julie, Rusty, Shady, Beverly, Walter, the mean girls, Lenny & Sonia are all pieces of the story as Jamie learns to walk through a difficult situation and gains friendships along the way. I found myself really wanting a sequel at the end of the story so that I didn't have to part with the community and the characters that I had come to feel part of. This book is a keeper!
