Solid mystery, clever trope exploration, little a heartbreak (as a treat) submitted by h6davis on June 30, 2020, 2:01pm Clever new take on the "school for magical kids" trope, where a nonmagical private investigator is called in for a suspected murder of a teacher, at the school where her magical twin works. The mystery is well laid out, and we get to see that (despite how she may feel about herself) the main character is good at her job, as she works her way through the case with the typical self-destructive tendencies of a classic hard-boiled noir detective. The teenagers at the school are just like teenagers everywhere: pranks, cliques, popularity contests, passing notes, just with the aid of magic. I've read a lot of Sarah Gailey's stuff before, and spent the whole time waiting for the heartbreak - even so, it still took me by surprise and hit HARD.

Sisterly Love submitted by smog58 on August 9, 2022, 4:38pm This was an easy read and entertaining. Flashes of Harry Potter came to mind while reading it. It is a murder mystery and the characters were interesting.
