The television series is a spinoff from the popular Breaking Bad television show. The series takes place six years before the events of Breaking Bad and features small-time lawyer Jimmy McGill. The series follows the exploits of Jimmy and the circumstances that lead to his metamorphosis into criminal-minded lawyer Saul Goodman.

An Intricate Slow-Burn submitted by Meginator on July 4, 2022, 9:20am The final scenes of its season 3 finale hint that Better Call Saul (and the characters the show follows) are at a turning point, and this season takes a somewhat darker turn before culminating itself in a character-defining moment for Jimmy McGill and his alter-ego, the infamous Saul Goodman. The supporting characters, whose storylines are as central to the show’s structure as McGill’s even when their various narrative threads don’t directly intersect, also face some character-defining moments as Albuquerque’s rival drug barons continue to fight for influence and territory. Though its timeline is still a few years out from the events of “Breaking Bad”, the show’s direct connections to future events are beginning to emerge at a quicker pace that gives the show itself increased narrative momentum beyond its strictly internal storylines. This show is a very slow burn, but its intricate character studies have incredible depth and the writers are able to manufacture intense tension in the quiet moments, which in turn gives its huge twists an enormous and immediate emotional impact. This show keeps getting better and better, and I both fear and can’t wait to see where it goes next, particularly knowing what lies ahead (and apparently doesn’t) for so much of the core cast.
