Really cool story of a fascinating saint submitted by Richard Lee Pierre on August 15, 2019, 1:24pm Hildegard of Bingen was awesome! It’s incredible to think about all the kinds of things she accomplished— in everything from music to science to theology to medicine. As this book explains, she did all of this while maintaining an admirable life of service to others. Kids and adults will both love learning about Hildegard — the book explains Hildegard’s “world of lights” in a way that is relatable and understandable to all ages. And the lovely illustrations only add to it!
Illustrations Evoking Illuminated Manuscripts submitted by Meginator on August 31, 2019, 10:47am This picture book serves as an accessible introduction to the life and accomplishments of Hildegard von Bingen, an extraordinary polymath from the middle Medieval period. The text is relatively simple, particularly given the complex topics it deals with (notably, Hildegard’s heavenly visions), and the illustrations stylistically mimic illuminated manuscripts from the period. Some of the text is a bit choppy, and the visual language will be initially unfamiliar to most readers, but overall this book makes for an excellent introduction to a remarkable woman.
