Great Accompaniment to a Great Film submitted by Meginator on July 7, 2019, 5:32pm Musically, this soundtrack feels very current, to the point where it will quickly become dated, but it perfectly captures the emotional depth of “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Featuring songs dealing with self-confidence and crises thereof, the album evokes the unique feeling of being a teenager tasked with a great task- and great self-doubt. Most of the songs incorporate rap and R&B (with a heavy emphasis on autotune), giving the film a coherent musical identity that meshes well with its setting in an alternative New York City. Some of the songs didn’t land as well for me in isolation as they did while I was watching the film, but this album is obviously the result of a lot of careful curation and mindful creation; ultimately, it’s a worthy accompaniment to an outstanding film.
