Stripped-Down and Effective submitted by Meginator on August 31, 2019, 11:09pm Even by Patty Griffin’s standards, this album feels stripped down, but that simplicity allows Griffin’s superlative songwriting talent to really shine through, eliminating all distractions and getting to the heart of her art. The guitar work often makes for an intricate complement to Griffin’s delightfully expressive vocals, and her lyrics are as evocative as ever, despite the temptation to get lost in the lost in the sound alone without paying attention to their meaning. As ever, Griffin is astounding, and this album strikes the perfect balance between raw emotion and refined craft, offering an intimate listening experience on par with Griffin’s best work.
