"A smart, thoughtful, and timely exploration of two sisters' lives from the 1950s to the present as they struggle to find their places--and be true to themselves--in a rapidly evolving world. Mrs. Everything is an ambitious, richly textured journey through history--and herstory--as these two sisters navigate a changing America over the course of their lives"-- Provided by publisher.

Loved it submitted by selujules on July 29, 2019, 6:29pm Great summer read. Juicy plot, but also tugged on my heartstrings. Needed tissues for the final chapters!

Great book submitted by Aimless on August 21, 2019, 3:36pm This book is full of the twists and turns you love in a summer read.

Compelling stories of relationships, change, and culture submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on June 17, 2020, 9:17pm Weiner writes compelling stories of relationships, change, and culture. This book is no exception, and kept me coming back for more. I love the women in her books for their nuances, their hangups, their failings, their growth, and above all, the true story they are about themselves. They don’t pretend to be all women… while still giving insight to journeys that so many of us are on at different points. The men, while definitely secondary to the women, are still real, with personalities that shape the stories at key moments. Jo and Bethie might be my favorite Weiner characters so far.

Great writer submitted by jcottey on July 23, 2020, 9:38pm Weiner is an author I enjoy. While I recognize her excellent writing, this wasn't my favorite of her books because it has more sadness and discomfort than I generally like. That's my own failing though, not the book's. A good portion of the book is set in Southeastern Michigan, including UM, so that was interesting.

Local setting... submitted by smgop on August 3, 2020, 8:36pm This was hard for me to get into, I did enjoy the references to SE MI!

More ambitious than typical Weiner submitted by robinpollak on June 25, 2021, 11:54pm This book follows a woman in SE Michigan over the course of her life, and it was satisfying to experience Jennifer Weiner expanding her writing repertoire beyond her typical style. It look a few chapters to get into it, and then I loved the character development, the story, and seeing history through the lens of the book.

Her best book yet submitted by Elizabethreads on June 28, 2021, 9:03am The story follows the lives of two sisters, both born in Detroit, who deal with the loss of their father by choosing separate paths. It's an intricate, beautiful story that spans five decades. It's more deep and less breezy than Weiner's usual books, and I loved it.

unsatisfying submitted by nemiller on July 16, 2021, 8:56pm I feel like this book was kind of like an after-school special of a sitcom. It tries to deal with serious topics, but in a pretty superficial way. For example, one of the sisters, Jo, fights with her mom about civil rights, but it's presented like two equal arguments, as though the mom's personal difficulties excuse or justify her racism. Even the most likable characters don't seem to have very strong convictions, or lose them as they grow older.

Some might like this as a light read, but I found the characters too infuriating to really enjoy the book.

Not very realistic but decent submitted by ellec on July 13, 2022, 5:39pm I felt the author touched on too many different topics without enough depth to make it realistic. My heart broke for the characters at some points, but at others I couldn't help but roll my eyes.

cover summary different than book? submitted by bjkoch on July 15, 2022, 3:30pm was i the only one confused by the blurb? was must more serious than i thought

Wonderful read submitted by Emily LB on July 19, 2023, 12:57pm I loved this book! I loved the multi-generational story, and the alternating perspectives of the sisters over the course of their lifetime. I listened to this book on tape, and it was such a evocative way to experience this book. As others have noted, I also loved the south-eastern Michigan setting! 5/5 strong recommend!
