Big Band Broadway submitted by Meginator on July 25, 2022, 11:28am This album strips the classic Leonard Bernstein/Stephen Sondheim musical of its lyrics and reimagines the music in a big band orchestration that isn’t all that different from a traditional orchestra pit. The music sounds as good as ever, but lacks a bit of life without the vocal performances despite largely keeping their melodic lines in the arrangements. This album will be enjoyable for fans of musical theater who want some background listening that isn’t as distracting as the full soundtrack, or anyone who is a particularly big fan of this musical. Otherwise, any of the many full recordings are likely to be a more satisfying choice.
