The House of Berethnet has ruled Inys for a thousand years. Still unwed, Queen Sabran the Ninth must conceive a daughter to protect her realm from destruction--but assassins are getting closer to her door. Ead Duryan is an outsider at court. Though she has risen to the position of lady-in-waiting, she is loyal to a hidden society of mages. Ead keeps a watchful eye on Sabran, secretly protecting her with forbidden magic. Across the dark sea, Tané has trained to be a dragonrider since she was a child, but is forced to make a choice that could see her life unravel. Meanwhile, the divided East and West refuse to parley, and forces of chaos are rising from their sleep.-- Publisher's description.

Highly recommend submitted by patrickf7890 on August 3, 2019, 7:34pm An enjoyable read, and just as entertaining as the Bone Season trilogy. Definitely worth the time it takes to read this 900-something page book.

Truly fascinating fantasy submitted by Shashankk8 on July 10, 2023, 11:19pm Loved every bit of the 800 page plus saga.

Fun, but rushed! submitted by gryfinder on October 3, 2023, 9:43am 4/5. I enjoyed the Priory of the Orange Tree a lot! My main complaint is the pacing at the end of the book was way too fast. The first 3/4 of the book was paced well, gradually building up characters and lore; then, the last 1/4 to last 100 pages were a dead sprint to the end. I felt like the absolute sprint to the end left the reader with an anti-climatic battle and a loss of lore. I think the book either should’ve been split in two ~600 page novels or should’ve been longer.
