There Is a Season submitted by Meginator on August 22, 2022, 10:05am This picture book uses gentle poetry and gorgeous two-page spreads to show how three young squirrels discover some of the effects of the seasonal shift between winter and spring. The translated thyming poetry works fairly well, although some of the rhythmic meter is a little awkward to read aloud, and the simple story is suitable for young readers with just a tiny hint of peril to the main characters that is quickly resolved. I was a little confused by the presence of ducks who had apparently spent a snowy winter in this landscape only to decide to migrate north as the snow melts (this feels a little backward to me), but the book has a simple charm to it that makes it a great choice for reading aloud in a quiet moment.
