COMMUNITY REVIEWS
Entertaining submitted by pkominsky on May 20, 2019, 6:52pm I'm not familiar with the books, and the film didn't really explain why there are big moving cities, but the film was enjoyable. Some decent character development, tense action scenes, and sweeping landscapes. Hugo Weaving plays the bad guy well. Some of the characters are cliche and the plot is often predictable. Entertaining, but not as good as some of Peter Jackson's other work.
Good Concept, Okay Execution submitted by tree64 on June 22, 2019, 4:54pm I loved the concept behind this movie -- the beginning of the movie did a good job of setting up the premises and explaining the backstory. However, as the movie went on, the plot became very cliche, and there was a clear lack of character development. Although I have not read the books, I am certain that this was something the books did a better job with. I would watch this movie if you like the dystopian concept of cities on wheels -- otherwise, skip it.
Mortal engines submitted by avrogers1 on July 3, 2019, 9:34pm This is a really cool science fiction movie. We really enjoyed watching it.
Enjoyable submitted by ferielp on July 9, 2019, 12:24pm The world-building and effects were great, as were the young leads, but the plot was a little thin. Not having read the book, I can't tell if the screenplay deviated from the source material. Still worth the watch for the unique concept.
Hmm submitted by anacoluthon on August 13, 2019, 12:12pm The concept was interesting, but it felt like this movie was more style than substance. The plot never seemed to know which direction it was going, and it felt like there was a quota for scifi/fantasy/dystopia tropes.
