Another one submitted by redwood on August 2, 2019, 8:10pm Yet another movie about white people and racism ... can we stop?

Green Book blu-ray submitted by a2sue on August 31, 2019, 7:07am Before I saw this film on Blu-Ray I had no idea that it was based upon a true story. Green Book was interesting, yet disturbing at times. Good movie!

I had never heard of the Green Book but... submitted by ccrose on August 24, 2020, 5:38pm I was married to a Memphis musician, a member of an R&B band in the 1980's. It was an integrated band and even then, they sometimes had trouble getting rooms or dinner. They played to white audiences all around the MidSouth and trouble was often subtle.
I liked the story very much, the reversals of what are the usual expectations. Could have done better on writing screenplay. It was full of predictable moments.

Didn't do anything worth beest picture submitted by brooksza on August 15, 2022, 3:32pm Wanted to watch this because it's my biggest recent Oscars ~blindspot. The best part about this movie is the chemistry between Mahershala Ali and Viggo Mortensen. No surprise to me but the movie itself was pretty cookie-cutter, basic story about racism in America. It wasn't the worst movie I've seen, but didn't do anything new and (cold take alert) certainly didn't do anything worthy of a best picture nomination let alone win. In better hands this could have been more powerful.

A few years later, HBO's Lovecraft Country also told a story about the green book and sundown laws with much, much greater impact.

Impressive submitted by markwells on July 24, 2023, 8:49am Viggo Mortensen is arguably the most underrated actor in our era. The other performances and a great story make for a great movie. It does lose points for being somewhat formulaic. Grade: A-.
