Black album submitted by tisaallen on July 14, 2022, 4:20pm The fifth Metallica album went for mainstream success and achieved it in a big way, making it one of the best-selling albums of all time. A lot of people thus think of it as the classic Metallica album, but it kind of pales in comparison to their first three albums. The tempos are slowed down and the songs are simpler than the ambitious ones on ...And Justice For All and none of the riffs live up to their best work. Despite these drawbacks, the album cemented Metallica as the biggest metal act in the world, which seems to be a permanent distinction at this point. And it's probably better than anything they have done since then.
