Not what you think; in a good way! submitted by emroon on July 17, 2022, 3:45pm In an effort to stop the sensationalizing of crimes agains women this author profiled, in detail the lives of the five women murdered by Jack the Ripper. In essence, this book became stories about poor women in London and the lives that the impoverished people lived in that time. I think it was a fascinating look at how things like addiction, abuse, and the lack or rights led to all 5 of these women being put in dangerous situations. Almost all of them had led fairly stable, if not hard lives before something, like addiction, or the loss of a child changed their paths. The author also makes connections to the sensationalizing of modern crimes against women, and how they are often not believed. It was well written and I enjoyed it, despite the hard topic.
Wow. submitted by lfmarcus on August 11, 2022, 11:35am This was an absolutely stunning read, and I wish everyone could read it and really learn about these women, and how certain struggles they faced are still very much a problem today.
