COMMUNITY REVIEWS

A beautiful cycle submitted by terpsichore17 on August 16, 2019, 12:17pm These singers have a beautifully clear, ethereal sound. Their carefully-chosen pieces, both old, new, and new settings of the old, meditate on and reflect the mystery and wonder of the incarnation.

What’s particularly enjoyable is how they’ve doubled-up pieces: one setting of Coventry Carol is followed by another, even ghostlier version; one setting of There Is No Rose is followed by a different setting. This may sound merely repetitive, but because the music is different, it simply allows for the listener to consider the text in greater depth and, perhaps, from a different angle, by virtue of hearing it twice.

Most delightfully, since my player looped the CD, Morten Lauridsen’s setting of O Magnum Mysterium seamlessly joins up to Byrd’s setting on the first track: a perfect circle.
