It is summer in Phoenix, and seventeen-year-old Maximo offers to help a Jordan, a fellow student in high school, with the food truck that belonged to Jordan's deceased father, and which may be the only thing standing between homelessness for Jordan and his mom; the boys are strongly attracted to each other, but as their romance develops it is threatened by the secrets they are hiding--and by the racism and homophobia of those around them.

So Cute submitted by zora on July 13, 2020, 12:24pm After reading a book that had me crying for so long I needed a feel-good book and this was such a perfect choice. I had a huge smile on my face while reading this and it was just so amazing. One of my favorite parts of this book was the food truck and how much Max loved cooking and I just love seeing characters being truly passionate about something. Unlike most YA books The Music Of What Happens actually has a large focus on the family of the main characters and you really get to know a lot about the family dynamics in both Max's and Jordan's households. Both of the main characters learned so much through the book about themselves and how to open up to other people. I really needed a happy gay romance that could distract me from my own life and this really filled that spot perfectly. There are some pretty heavy topics discussed in this book so I recommend looking up a list of trigger warnings before going into this book if you feel that you might need to.
